Hello lovely dreamers! While I know I haven’t been active for a while, a LOT has happened in the past few months. To catch you up, I have recently graduated from college cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and a Minor in Public Relations. Oh yeah, and we’re living through a pandemic… As you can imagine, being a recent college graduate job searching with everything going on has been a bit discouraging. However, graduate or not the past few months have been difficult for everyone, for various reasons and we’re all just trying to survive right now.
I have fluctuated back and forth between being motivated and inspired, and being, well, depressed and lazy. It’s been hard to be positive and motivated the last few months, and I recently felt myself getting more and more discouraged. After applying to countless jobs and never getting an acknowledgment or courteous “we’ve gone with someone else” email, I was starting to get really down. I started becoming more upset with myself and my current situation and was convinced I was basically doomed at this point. Although instead of allowing myself to continue to spiral down this tunnel of depression and dissatisfaction, I decided to do something about it.
While there are very few things within our control right now, the one thing we can control is our mindset and our outlook. So instead of plunging deeper into the pit of despair, I decided instead to try to manifest some positivity into my life. Since quarantine started, I much like everyone else, have been feeling particularly crafty. So I chose the way I wanted to focus my energy instead of being negative, was to create a vision board. I thought that it would be good to channel my energy into being positive, and picturing all of the good things I wanted.

I bought a cheap 16X16 bulletin board and some gold heart pushpins from Target and got to work. To start my vision board, I wrote down some of the main things I wanted to focus on manifesting in my life. The first thing I focused on was, of course, a job; not just any job though, a job I would actually enjoy. Additionally, I wanted to focus on fitness, positivity, happiness, and traveling (when eventually possible of course.) I also maintained the idea that I wanted to achieve these goals within a year where possible (ie: traveling probably not so much.) Next, I took it to Pinterest. I wanted to stick with a pink aesthetic to compliment my room, and because it’s my favorite color. I searched images that matched my theme with a combination of both inspirational words, real pictures, and just aesthetically pleasing images. Since I am fairly picky, I didn’t want to see the brown from the board in the background, so I decided to use some extra fabric to cover the front of the board. I then painstakingly cut out and arranged the photos exactly to my desire (which took longer than I would like to admit.) Lastly, I added some cute stickers I had laying around to fill in some gaps, I just tucked them under the pins so I didn’t have to puncture them.
In all honesty, it was a somewhat cathartic and relaxing experience, and my satisfaction with how it came out really managed to boost my mood. Surprisingly, the day after I made it I ended up having one of the best and most positive days in a while. While I’m not saying it’s magic, this series of events definitely helped to put me in a different, more positive mind frame.
If you’re struggling to get motivated or be positive I highly recommend making a vision board. While not it only preoccupies you and helps you focus your energy on something, it also helps you to picture and actively think about your goals. I really believe that it helps to keep you focused on what you want, while also keeping you positive and motivated.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post, I hope you are all staying safe, happy, and healthy, and are able to manifest some positivity in your life. <3
